This is one of the well known views of York Minster, taken from the city walls near the railway station. It is rare to walk along this section of the walls without visitors to the city taking photos.
Late afternoon sun gives the minster a rich warm colour as it towers over more recent buildings. In the lower foreground is Lendal Bridge.
The Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of Saint Peter in York, commonly known as York Minster, is the cathedral of York, and is one of the largest of its kind in Northern Europe.
York Minster charts the development of English Gothic architecture from Early English through to the Perpendicular Period. The present building was begun in about 1230 and completed in 1472.
Beautiful city view. I have always wanted to visit this city and its cathedral. The nearest I have been was to the Lake District. Maybe there is still time for a visit.
@gamelee Thank you Lee, I hope you had a good time here in York. You were a week early for the Christmas market, that started on Thursday 14th. This view of the Minster is a classic, and a shot I've taken many times in different conditions.
Thank you all for your lovely comments, and so many favs, which put this shot on the Popular Page.
If any of you are planning a visit to York, let us know if you want a Fisher Family tour of the city, it would be good to meet you!

How is Katherine doing?
Thank you Nina. Katharine is slowly getting better, but we have been told that it will be into next year before she is fully recovered.
