Another shot taken in the Homestead Park, and despite my best efforts to get a shot of this lovely flower with a bee on it, things just didn't work out. Perhaps I was rather impatient.
Allium nigrum, common name black garlic, broad-leaved leek, or broadleaf garlic, is a Middle Eastern species of wild onion. It lacks the onion or garlic scent shared by most of the other species in the group. The species is native to Turkey, Cyprus, Syria, Lebanon, and Israel but cultivated as an ornamental in many other places. It has become naturalized in some regions, including parts of the United States (especially Washington and Oregon). The name nigrum (black) is derived from the colour of the ovaries.
Here in York we have a lovely display of them in the Homestead Park.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
We are very fortunate here in York to have such a lovely park as the Homestead Park, with it's attractive features whatever the season.
