It's Chinese New Year, and the start of the Year of the Rabbit.
York has taken steps to celebrate, with lanterns in Parliament Street, dragons in Coney Street, and this 2 metre tall rabbit in Rougier Street.
I did wonder at first why this location had been chosen, and then I realised that there were several Chinese businesses near here - a supermarket, and at least three restaurants.
I rather liked this rabbit, I thought he had quite a bit of character.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
I'm not sure how long the Chinese New Year dispay will last. There are other events planned for the immediate future, with a Residents Festival next weekend (free or reduced admission to many museums and attractions for 2 days) and an Ice Sculpture trail on the first weekend in February. The place where this rabbit sculpture can be found is usually the site of a ice sculpture, so the rabbit is likely to be moved by then.
