Going, going, gone.

I don't often shoot birds in flight but since it is the topic for a local group I belong to I thought I would have a go with some local gulls. Ironically, my best shots were of them flying away from me. I think I need more patience to wait for the right pose and experiment more with camera settings. Any advice?
