In 1878 eight coastguard cottages were built above Birling Gap in East Sussex. One by one they have gone due to soil erosion (1973,1994, 2002, 2014) leaving only four, in a perilous position. The National Trust café, on the other side of the stairs down to the beach, is closed and being demolished. I wonder how much longer the remaining four cottages have.
