At dusk, under the bird feeder. by gardencat

At dusk, under the bird feeder.

This mom had at least 4 little ones with her under the feeder, cleaning up the seeds the birds had dropped. As soon as I opened the door the little ones all scooted into the cedar hedge but, after waiting quietly for a few minutes, this one came back. Eventually they all returned but, by then, the light had faded enough that I couldn't get decent photo of the whole group.
The little ones are so cute! Mom's can be a bit scary though.

Wow Joanne!!! That's amazing!! I can't imagine having these beautiful little creatures in the garden. Do they do any harm? They're so cute. 100 fav's.

@susiemc They are very cute and mostly co-exist along side people but they can be vicious with big claws and sharp teeth, if they are cornered or feel threatened. Also on rare occasions they may carry rabies so it's best to give them a wide berth and to keep your eye out for any unusual behaviour. Also, much like squirrels, if they find their way into your attic they can do a lot of damage, not surprising as they are much larger than squirrels.

This is the only critter I haven't captured in my backyard yet- although we've had them raid the recycle bin a couple times! Great shot!

@gardencat Thanks for the reply. Best enjoyed from a distance then.

@susiemc Well, I wouldn't try to pet one, LOL. I did try to do a little post processing to improve one of the shots with more of the little creatures in it and it's here, now:
