This little Japanese netsuke carving was one of two that belonged to my sister. After she passed away, a few years ago, I helped my brother in law sort through her things and we found this one, but the other one seems to have been lost. I wanted to keep this image simple but wasn't sure if I should do this on a completely flat, black, background or add a bit more interest and texture. In the end I went with this but I'm still conflicted.
I think your background works really well with your b&w capture of the netsuke carving. Your image has a zen-like feeling (to me, anyhow). A touching background narrative, too, Joanne. Fav
