Anyone who didn't like a horse-
Well, there's something
the matter with them.
...Will Rogers
When I found out today was Will Rogers birthday, I moved my original post from today to tomorrow. I saw the fun animated Google artwork of Will Rogers and wanted to post something for him today.
This is a very old photo of me (I was 17-18 years old) at a horse show competing in a Hunters & Jumpers. This was my second horse named My Marco, a bay thoroughbred gelding.
I love horses and my best birthday present was my first horse for my 13th birthday. She was a retired polo pony thoroughbred mare from Will Rogers Park, shared by two polo players and named 50-50. I renamed her 50 Grand. I was lucky to later board my horses (I have had two) at Will Rogers State Historic Park. I spent many happy days there in its wonderful barn and beautifully manicured grounds. I absolutely loved and felt fortunate I was at this location. Nice on Black.
"Outside the barn, look to the ocean and remember why Will built the barn at exactly this spot - so his horses could get the best view. Outside the barn two of Will's favorite horses are buried, Soapsuds and Bootlegger."
Loved your narrative. Brought back memories of watching horse shows when I was a child. I remember being so impressed with the riders (young like you.)
This photo is absolutely amazing. Everything about it is cool. First of all, I can’t believe that is you. And look at your great outfit. And My Marco is so strong. What a fantastic childhood you had. You were very fortunate living in California by the ocean. So different than how I grew up.
I love horses. And I have a couple of them. Not thoroughbred, though, two Sardinian Anglo-Arab mares, a bay and a roan. They reside in the island and live free, I ride the roan every time I can...
