What I like about photographs
is that they
capture a moment
that's gone forever
impossible to reproduce.
...Karl Lagerfeld
I have always thought this was a special photo, one of my mother's treasures. This photo is titled "The Land of Forgetfulness - Conservatory Hall, June 7, 1924. It was taken in Kansas City, Missouri. My mom had just turned 6 years old. She is in the first row, 7th from the right. There are some interesting expressions and few smiles. I wish I knew more about it.
You’re right about the expressions. Some look happy to be there and some look like lets get this over with or I do NOT want to be here. Love the story in it.
What an amazing treasure! Judging from the costumes it must have been some sort of ballet or play. I wonder if you could find a script for it on line? I love all those different expressions. From what I know of photo history this probably wasn't a quick shot, hence some of the more sullen expressions. How do you hold a smile for 2-3 minutes?!
