Breakaways near Coober Pedy, SA

Opal stone ( mix of silica and water ) is Australia's national gemstone. Australia's opals make up approximately 95 % of the world's resources. Around these colorful rock formations in the middle of nowhere, in 1915, the world’s largest opal bearing region was discovered by chance. Soon later, Coober Pedy, small town, in northern part of South Australia, was built.
An interesting piece of information, but also a beautiful image!

Its a fascinating town to visit, and the nanostructure of silica in opal is equally fascinating!
