The new Len Lye Centre and Govett Brewster Art Gallery is finally open in our little "sleepy hollow" of a town. It's an incredible building, clad in highly polished, curving stainless steel and, despite some of our more parochial citizens opinions, a very welcome addition to the city. This is the inside of the building, where the concrete walls follow the curves of the exterior steel. Unfortunately for you, I will be posting more images over the next couple of days and all of them have been taken with the Lensbaby . In other news: I went outside today and photographed people. The shock.
I am a confirmed and certifiable nutbar with a penchant for skulls, bones, blood, guts, fire and anything slightly peculiar and mostly bizarre. I also...
Oh, fascinating... I adore a good architectural shot. Very cool, how you tilted the vertical lines. The little cluster of people adds a nice sense of scale. On the tech side, how do you like the Lensbaby and which one do you own? I have been casually pondering this purchase and (when you have time) would love to know about your impressions.
@dide Thanks very much :) @cindyloo Thank you kindly, it's such an awesome building :) @888rachel Thank you very much :) It was a shock to me as well! @rosiekerr Thanks very much - I have the lensbaby spark, which is the lowly entry level model. It takes a bit of getting used to and I don't use it as much as I should - it doesn't suit every shot but I do like what it does to this kind of shot, or beach shots. You also need to have a third hand (ideally) as I find that you need two to use the lens and one to be constantly adjusting the shutter speed as you focus. I do like it though :)
Great shot and Len sounds interesting, I like galleries to be artistic statements in themselves. Look forward to more shots of this place, your other pic is worthy of a spot in a gallery....
Looks like a very impressive building. Sounds like a wonderful addition to your town. Funny how some people really don't like change or anything different.
@adayinmallacoota It's an awesome building, and long overdue - the outside should make an appearance tomorrow. @jack4john Thank you very much - he's a bit of a local hero, love his work @etchasketch1 It's enormous but a great space @ukandie1 Thanks very much :) @lisamccloskey Thank you kindly :) @rosiekerr It's worth it, once you get used to it's foibles...
Wonderful capture. I've also been pondering the lens baby but like Rosie @rosiekerr more pondering will probably occur. Interesting to hear your take on it. I like the images 365ers come up with theirs, but it always sounds as though there's a lot to learn ... Not that that's necessarily a bad thing ;)
@tonygig I was just trying not to fall over ;) @susanalena Thank you very much :) @jocasta Thank you very much :) @pistache They're certainly a challenge but I think they're worth it @mastermek You never know, there may be colour on the horizon...or not...
Big, BIG FAV on this one!! I am a sucker for a good architectural shot, and for a good building, and this fits the bill! I finally found some nice photos of it in an ARCHITECT magazine, and it really looks like an impressive building....inside and out! The exterior really affords some wonderful shots with twisted reflections, and I love the starkness and grandeur of the interior spaces....keep them coming!
@panthora It's an awesome place, but unfortunately it's really divided the community. There doesn't seem to be any middle ground between love and hate, and the haters really, seriously hate
@cindyloo Thank you kindly, it's such an awesome building :)
