The Gallery

The new Len Lye Centre and Govett Brewster Art Gallery is finally open in our little "sleepy hollow" of a town. It's an incredible building, clad in highly polished, curving stainless steel and, despite some of our more parochial citizens opinions, a very welcome addition to the city. This is the inside of the building, where the concrete walls follow the curves of the exterior steel. Unfortunately for you, I will be posting more images over the next couple of days and all of them have been taken with the Lensbaby . In other news: I went outside today and photographed people. The shock.

For this of you remotely interested, Len Lye was a local artist and more information can be found here: http://govettbrewster.com/Len-Lye/About

And if you've made it this far, my other shot for today can be found here: http://365project.org/fiveplustwo/365/2015-07-26
Oh, fascinating... I adore a good architectural shot. Very cool, how you tilted the vertical lines. The little cluster of people adds a nice sense of scale. On the tech side, how do you like the Lensbaby and which one do you own? I have been casually pondering this purchase and (when you have time) would love to know about your impressions.

When I got over the shock of seeing real live people in your shot, I admired how you have used them to convey scale to this shot. Excellent as always.

This looks really awesome!!!! Almost other world-ish! Fav!

Great shot of the interior and look forward to seeing more - with people of course.

@dide Thanks very much :)
@cindyloo Thank you kindly, it's such an awesome building :)
@888rachel Thank you very much :) It was a shock to me as well!
@rosiekerr Thanks very much - I have the lensbaby spark, which is the lowly entry level model. It takes a bit of getting used to and I don't use it as much as I should - it doesn't suit every shot but I do like what it does to this kind of shot, or beach shots. You also need to have a third hand (ideally) as I find that you need two to use the lens and one to be constantly adjusting the shutter speed as you focus. I do like it though :)

@graemestevens Ouch... this sound complicated. More pondering.... Thanks for the info!

That place looks huge! Love the perspective here

Great shot and Len sounds interesting, I like galleries to be artistic statements in themselves. Look forward to more shots of this place, your other pic is worthy of a spot in a gallery....

Looks like a very impressive building. Sounds like a wonderful addition to your town. Funny how some people really don't like change or anything different.

@adayinmallacoota It's an awesome building, and long overdue - the outside should make an appearance tomorrow.
@jack4john Thank you very much - he's a bit of a local hero, love his work
@etchasketch1 It's enormous but a great space
@ukandie1 Thanks very much :)
@lisamccloskey Thank you kindly :)
@rosiekerr It's worth it, once you get used to it's foibles...
July 26th, 2015
Let them come, those other pics. Perhaps... one in c....?
July 26th, 2015
Wonderful capture. I've also been pondering the lens baby but like Rosie @rosiekerr more pondering will probably occur. Interesting to hear your take on it. I like the images 365ers come up with theirs, but it always sounds as though there's a lot to learn ... Not that that's necessarily a bad thing ;)

Absolutely love the composition of this - suits the lensbaby so well.
July 26th, 2015
Love this comp and the angle, crop on the shot. Nice processing too, Graeme!

Lovely angled shot Graeme...

Wonderful perspective! Good thing I was sitting Dow when I discovered it was yours.
July 26th, 2015
The lensbaby works perfectly for this and I love your composition - careful... you're nearly mainstream!
July 26th, 2015
@janiskay You're not the first to think that ;)
@vignouse Heaven forbid!
July 27th, 2015
Very impressive columns.
July 27th, 2015
This is a great shot, very unusual for you to be out and about around people? :) Love the lines on this.
July 27th, 2015
@taffy They certainly created a great space
@kerosene It's a strange feeling...

Big, BIG FAV on this one!! I am a sucker for a good architectural shot, and for a good building, and this fits the bill! I finally found some nice photos of it in an ARCHITECT magazine, and it really looks like an impressive building....inside and out! The exterior really affords some wonderful shots with twisted reflections, and I love the starkness and grandeur of the interior spaces....keep them coming!

@panthora It's an awesome place, but unfortunately it's really divided the community. There doesn't seem to be any middle ground between love and hate, and the haters really, seriously hate
August 6th, 2015
@radiogirl It's such a cool building :)
August 6th, 2015
Haters will hate....and, you can't please all the people all of the time....and, everybody is a critic! Anything else?!
August 6th, 2015
@panthora Pretty sure you've covered it all there
