"Beit ed-Dine is one of the best historical places in Lebanon. It is one of the best example of early 19th century Lebanese architecture. It has richly decorated ceilings, colorful mosaic floors, luxurious Turkish baths with several glass-studded cupolas, harem suites, a folkloric museum, and gardens." It is used as summer residence by the current President for a portion of the summer. This is a fountain in the inner courtyard.
This palace was built by a local emir, Bashir Chehab II who also had three other palaces built for his sons in the same area. The only one still standing today is Mir Amin Palace which has been converted into a hotel and is where we ate a traditional meal for lunch.
That fountain looks so cooling and luxurious next to the old stone buildings, almost like it should be somewhere else. This is what I love when travelling abroad, the 'wabi-sabi' of the surroundings. Lovely pic!
@anazad511 Thanks so much, Ana! It means House of Religion or Faith. It was built near a Druze hermitage. The Druze are a monotheistic Middle Eastern sect mainly in Lebanon.
I really want to see this place too.
Great stop action on the fountain.
