Student Quality Paper by grammyn

Student Quality Paper

A true artist needs to consider several factors before choosing watercolor paper. Quality, production, content, weight, texture, tinting, and form are all important aspects of making the choice. Since I am anything but a true artist these choices are not as critical for me. Interestingly enough those papers made with 100% cotton are the best for a watercolor artist.
I didn't know that! Fabulous blue composition

Well you sure know more about art paper than I do! Listing all the aspects! If itโ€™s 100% cotton it has to be good.

and then you have to consider hot-pressed, cold-pressed or rough texture; learned this the first time i bought watercolour materials and the sales person, kept asking me about choices. i already said i had no idea but can something be recommended.

can't wait to see how this transpires. i would imagine by the end of the month you'd have a completed painting? ๐Ÿ˜œ

Lots of decisions, I had no idea. Great compost shot.

What a wonderful composition! The blues, the squares, the shadows, and I especially like the curling corners of the tape.

Wow, I didn't know what . I would think the price would factor in also, especially for a beginner.

Several nice contrasts in this photo. The blue and white of the paper and tape and the black and darker bluish colors of the pattern on the wood.

I didn't know that about the paper. I like your photo!

Very good to know. So which paper do you end up using most of the time?

Great composition and wonderful narrative! I never had a clue about any of this.

@marilyn I am really happy you like it. So much of it is unplanned but the blue background was a choice.
@lesip LOL! ALWAYS a factor for me being the tightwad that I am
@randystreat So nice of you to notice and say Kathy thank you
@eudora Thanks Diane I don't think I knew most of it either
@madamelucy LOL! ususally the least expensive because I am NOT an artist
@ludwigsdiana Thank you Diana Most of it I am just learning too
@monikozi Thanks Monika. I confess I have never considered most of this or even knew about it before now which shows that you are a true artist and I am a novice

You are more of an artist than you think if you know to select certain kinds of paper for certain kinds of painting- I just painted on anything! But then, I was more of a "doodler" than a painter. If I'd only known more about photography back then, I think I would have landed on it sooner. Nice composition!

I just happened to go through the same issue. No artistry in that :D
April 12th, 2022
@olivetreeann thank you so much and I am just now learning too as I have only recently started with watercolor and am still in the "doodle" phase myself
