While i'll admit I have always admired designer Christmas trees with all the ornaments the same and a monochromatic color scheme, I have to say that every year when I put up my tree it warms my heart and makes me smile because it ISN'T a designer tree. Treasured ornaments from friends and family with no two exactly the same, different colored lights, store bought and home made reminders of Christmases past all come together at this time of year to reaffirm it is a wonderful life!
It's gorgeous! And I love the way the lights reflect off the walls.
I used to have some home-made ornaments, etc. but they got ruined before I started using plastic tubs to store my decorations. :'( And, while I wish I still had many of them, I have moved on and now I love my snowmen and the not-so-pretty-angel... which do have lots of sentimental value. I think I have always leaned a little toward theme trees... our first tree had one strand of blue lights ($1.00) and the white bows from our wedding gifts and then when the kids were younger I cut a bunch of 2" paper snowflakes and used those along with miniature candy canes for several years, then we painted some wooden ornaments (among the ruined) and had a few others that were gifts and home-made (also ruined) before I got the snowmen. I also have what I call my "pretty tree" which is glass balls and white iridescent garland, but with dogs and cats that was not an option this year! Besides, the snowmen are my very favorite!
