It is a wasp spider's cocoon. The female builds it in the autumn. The young come out in the spring.

There's a strange beauty in the nest, despite the dangerous insects it ends up housing.

@taffy They are not dangerous. The name comes from the pattern on the body - looks like a wasp or tiger.
