Hospital for storks by haskar

Hospital for storks

In Poland, the stork is taken very seriously. When a bird has a broken wing and cannot migrate for winter, they find shelter in a bird hospital. Most of them have a broken wing and they look very miserable
Wonderful shot! They look like a good group.

Glad they are being taken care of and great capture

It's not fun waiting for a bone to mend or a wing to heal. Hopefully they'll be flying by the time their friends and families return. Good shot.

Hope they heal well and fast. I am also reminded of a book from my childhood ( https://www.amazon.com/Wheel-School-Meindert-DeJong/dp/0064400212 ) I loved that story

Storks are mystical. This is a great picture.

They do look a little downtrodden, and good that they're being cared for.
December 17th, 2020
Oh the poor things. At least they are being looked after. Their wet feathers really add to the unhappy feel of the image. :)

Tom
How wonderful, both your photo and that there is a stork hospital
December 18th, 2020
What a surprising scene -- are their wings and injuries cared for so they heal? Or are they simply sheltered and fed?
December 19th, 2020
@joysabin YES! You're probably the only other person who would recall that book at this moment. :) We (ALA members) appreciate that you read and remember a Newbery winner!
December 19th, 2020
Wonderful shot!
December 20th, 2020
They really do look miserable. I hope their wings mend rapidly.
December 20th, 2020
@joysabin i will have to read that book. Love Maurice Sendak’s illustration.
December 20th, 2020
@jyokota If they can be helped, it is done. Currently, there are over 100 sick storks in Warsaw. They are not in the aviary but in the open. In winter they will stay here. And in the spring, if they feel well, they can fly away at any moment.

@carolinesdreams I just saw your comment. Did you know that Sendak is the only American to ever win the IBBY Hans Christian Andersen award for illustration?
December 20th, 2020
@jyokota no, i didn’t know that. Very well deserved.
December 20th, 2020
That's sadly beautiful. In New Jersey, on the edge of the Great Swamp, there lies a refuge for birds called the Raptor Trust. Glad there's places like this.

Wonderful capture
