Crathie Kirk by jamibann

Crathie Kirk

This kirk is about 5 miles from our home in Scotland. It's where the British Monarchs worship, and have worshipped since the time of Queen Victoria, when they are holidaying at Balmoral Castle. The kirk walls are made of local granite and the roof is made of Scots pine. Princess Anne got married there (to Tim Lawrence) as the Church of England wouldn't allow her, as a divorcee with a living ex-spouse, to re-marry in a Church. It's a lovely wee spot, and people flock there on Sundays during the summer just to see the Queen drive up and enter the church with her entourage.
Beautiful architecture and very interesting story of this Kirk.

Ahhhh look at you back in Scotland and with a hint of a Scotish accent coming out. Lovely church, how exciting to have the royals on your doorstep.

@lucypics Ha ha, and one does bump into them now and then you know! Occasionally Camilla whilst out walking her dogs! I was once in the same shop as the Duchess of Wessex and her two kids - I thought she looked familiar, as you do, and then it dawned on me when I heard her speak! They like it here because they can just be themselves - nobody bothers them.

What a wonderful story to go with your beautiful shot. This little kirk is so story book feeling and pretty, I would think a wonderful place to get married.

@tristansmum @sansjuan Thanks ladies. It is a lovely wee church, and it sits high up off the main road, which is not obvious from the photo. I think the sepia is a little darker on this image than it is on my actual processed photo, but I guess it's still ok.
