Drive carefully my love! by jamibann

Drive carefully my love!

As expats abroad, one of life's challenges is to get the kids through their driving tests in the UK. Mhairi, our daughter, passed her test 2 years ago, but because we don't own a car in the UK, and she can't drive a rental car, she has not driven since! However, this year we got my dad's car insured for her to drive and so I had to go out with her as a co-driver until she got used to driving again! Between that and accompanying my son whilst he learns this year, I'm a nervous wreck at the moment! The roads are better quality than this, generally, in Scotland, but this is taken down by the river where my husband is fishing this week.
Oh don't - my son starts learning in three weeks. I've had a few gos around the field with him in the Landrover which were......... interesting.

Nice for your daughter to have some quiet roads to practise on.

A super shot.

Great shot - good practice for the 'single track road, passing places' you tend to see the further north you venture in Scotland!!

Ah, I remember those days! Fingernails chewed down to the quick, hair pulled out, my fingers sunk into the dashboard, stomping on the nonexistent brake . . . Such fun! Anyway, your daughter looks very pleased to be behind the wheel - great shot!

Great shot! Looks like such a narrow road.

Great story to go with this scenic shot. Love the red car. Backroads are probably a good way to get back in practice - both for your children and you.

Gosh, I never thought about learning to drive on both sides if living an international life. Good experience for them, but I don't envy you!

A good picture for documenting this family occasion. I couldn't help but laugh with your admitted nervousness over all this driver training you're going through with your kids. Funny thing, just yesterday I went for a ride with my 25 y.o. son who was, for the first time, driving a stick-shift. It was like driver's education days all over again!

This brings lots of terrifying memories - first of teaching my now 50+ daughter to drive (only child in the high school I think who hadn't driven before she took driver's ed) and the practicing of starting on a hill with a stick shift. She remembers it as a huge hill and was so surprised to see this past year when she returned as little the hill actually was to watching my granddaughter learn. This looks like a perfect location to start the practicing!

Oh I had that problem with my son when we were back in England last time! It a whole different experience....and the roads are so much narrower there with more parked vehicles on them!!

OMG! I remember those days, teaching son was fine, but daughter was passed over to hubby! He used to come back in shouting and hollering that she nearly killed them....However, both are now fine drivers and have been for years!

@thresheg @juliedduncan @kwind @craftymeg @randystreat @denisefuller @taffy @lyndemc @milaniet @cailts @pixiemac Thanks for all the lovely comments. I am surviving so far, but it's not easy! I've only had to haul on the handbrake once so far - on a hill start roundabout after a stall! My poor dad's car has never been stalled so often!
