This sculpture is just outside the Tour Total where I used to work in La Defense, near Paris. I used to just walk past it and pay no attention to it, but I thought it deserved a place in my 365 Project. Artist - Alexander Calder.
Great shot! Calder was all about integrating the surroundings and people, I think he would have loved the people in your shot milling through his piece.
@irisn It certainly has become part of the fittings at La Defense, which is really quite a nice area, given that it is so much of a concrete jungle. The Grande Arche has helped it a lot and brought tourists as well as workers to the area. More photos will undoubtedly come from that area!
@taffy Must try and find your spider image,Taffy. This one in La Defense is apparently modelled on his Chicago sculpture! I had forgotten you were in Chicago. It's a small world. :-) Can you give me a link to yours? I'd love to see the Chicago version!
@jamibann@taffy The link to Taffy's capture: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_zJpnTu57Koc/TO6ZzI0zRgI/AAAAAAAAYyU/hvN438RGjoU/s1600/LI-sculp-Loop-003b.jpg. I hope that neither of you mind I linked the image as I was just reading this and am so curious about all of the new artists (to me) I'm learning about for the first time. The above photo was from an interesting blog on sculptures and other public art in Chicago. I wonder if someone is doing something similar for Paris? Would so enjoy seeing more Paris shots :)
@gratefulness Thanks Sandi - sorry for not replying sooner, but I've been away on a cycling challenge to Laos - just got in last night, and am quite shattered! I live in Paris now (having just moved from Houston) and so I will be posting some Paris sculptures over the coming weeks and months. I no longer commit to a 'daily' post, but rather post when I can. Hope there will be something you enjoy. :-)
