In 1861, at Napoleon's request, Charles Garnier started work on a 'new opera house' in Paris. It opened on 5 January 1875.

I did have to check the cars to be sure! This is so impressive - what terrific focus and really nicely composed. Such amazing architecture at one time in our history.
