Mhairi started her internship yesterday, so I was left to wander the city of Oslo alone. It was a pretty dull day, so I did a lot of indoor stuff - although according to my pedometer I also walked over 20km!
The biggest surprise for me was Oslo City Hall. The outside of the building is nothing special, in fact it's quite austere. Inside, it's open to the public, free, and so I thought I'd check it out. I was amazed. The lobby is light and airy and full of colour. All the rooms are covered with murals, done by a number of Norwegian artists. I'm sure I wandered around with my mouth hanging open! Quite fantastic!
The photo above is of the main hall. You can see a photographer setting up a photoshoot of some sort. I was standing on the balcony surrounding the hall, which is a venue for special events - in fact the Nobel Peace prize is presented here.
I'll post a couple of detailed mural shots in my odds and sods album if you're interested in seeing them.
I also visited the Opera House and the Munch Museum. I'll post photos of that once I'm back home in Paris.
