On Sunday, as it was a bit rainy, we went for a drive around the area and climbed to the top of this church tower in Batz-sur-Mer. It was very interesting for me, as we could see all the salt marshes of Guérande. It was fascinating to see how simply and naturally the salt was gathered. Channels feed the water reservoirs with sea water, using the tides and the salty water then evaporates in different dams till there are only a few centimeters of sea water left. Finally, the salt crystallizes and produces 'fleur de sel' and coarse salt. Obviously, I brought some back home to Paris with me!
Well, that is very interesting to read how they gather the salt. As you say, quite simply and naturally. Terrific shot of this church tower...wonderful POV! :-)
Super POV you went with for this shot and such interesting info on the salt harvesting.
The details you shared about your family's loss because of war were sobering. I can't imagine the challenges of raising four children alone... My dad and his sister ended up being raised by their Grama (the one the letter in the picture was written to) because their mom just couldn't deal with no longer having a husband. Life is challenging enough without war making it tougher.
