Suzanne Lenglen Court, Roland Garros by jamibann

Suzanne Lenglen Court, Roland Garros

Well, rain did stop play at Roland Garros yesterday, but not before we saw Andy Murray's exciting match against Argentinean Del Potro. What a great game! We weren't court-side as we weren't able to get tickets for that, but we were sitting very comfortably on RG deck chairs in the sunshine, watching it on the big screen.

This image is taken looking up at the exterior of one of the main courts in the French tournament, which as you can see, is named after Suzanne Lenglen, French tennis champion and flamboyant trendsetter of the early 1900's, who despite ill health, won around 31 championships in that era. She was nicknamed 'La Divine' by the French press of the time, and apparently shocked Wimbledon crowds by turning up in a dress revealing forearms and ankles ... and sipping brandy between sets!
Interesting lines and the sky makes one think that rain is not far off.

Nicely composed. I like it in B&W!

Wonderful lines and curves in this image, and I too like the B&W presentation. Such an interesting character, this Suzanne Lenglen, darling to show a little forearm and ankle to the crowd. (oh my, how things have changed, and perhaps not for the better!)
