This statue of William Wallace stands outside His Majesty's Theatre in Aberdeen, on Union Terrace.
Sir William Wallace, c1270-1305, one of Scotland’s greatest national heroes, leader of the Scottish resistance forces during the first years of the long and ultimately successful struggle to free Scotland from English rule.
Don't get me wrong, I am a very proud Scot, but I am also very happy to part of a United Kingdom today.
My mum lives near Stirling, so have visited the William Wallace memorial there many times. I call myself Yorkshire Kiwi. I was born in Yorkshire, emigrated to NZ, but I'm half Scottish! I know where you're coming from!. Incidentally I'll be back in Stirling next year for a visit.
@yorkshirekiwi We went to Stirling Castle with my dad and brothers for my dad's 80th, 4 years ago - we went up the WW memorial too. We also visited the Falkirk wheel - a great feat of engineering. It must be wonderful to live in NZ - although it's a long trip back to the UK. I just met up with a childhood friend from Scotland (she married a kiwi and lives near Auckland). We hadn't seen each other since I was in NZ way back in 1992 - there was a lot of catching up to be done!
