It had to be - the lily of the valley is synonymous with May Day in France. This was taken whilst out wandering with hubby this afternoon.
There is no real link, in fact none at all, other than a bit of word play ... but today's fun fact is that the expression 'Mayday' when calling for help apparently came about in the 1920's from the French 'm'aider'. Who knew? I never!
Lily of the Valley has such a wonderful scent. Pretty in the back of the wagon. I didn't know that about the cry for assistance. Must have been the Americans who slanged it up.
I did know about m'aidez - picked up somewhere! I also know that lily of the valley are hard to photograph which is a shame as we have loads in the garden! I like the way those in your shot are growing in pots in moss.
@gijsje Yes, we used to have lots in our garden in the suburbs ... I wonder if they're still blooming this year. They grow well in the shady areas if I remember well. I love the scent.
I did know about the expression, learnt from our French teacher at high school.
