I popped down the village this afternoon to get some last minute provisions for tonight's meal, when I heard the pipes and went to see what it was all about. I snapped this with my iPhone.
It's the march of the Ballater Juvenile Masons (about 6 of them this year ... there were more people in the accompanying pipe band). An old and rather odd tradition in the village, and one I never quite understood, although I do remember my brothers participating and wearing funny little red and white aprons. There followed a money scramble and no girls were invited, back in the day. I see that today the girls are invited to join the boys, after the march, for a magic show! A great step forward! ;-)
