Memorial to the Massacre of Glencoe by jamibann

Memorial to the Massacre of Glencoe

In Scotland, we all learned about this at school, and so it was touching to visit this memorial to the estimated 30 members of Clan McDonald who were massacred in February 1692, by Scottish Government forces, allegedly for failing to pledge allegiance to monarchs William III and Mary.

We also went to see the Signal Rock, where, according to legend, the signal was given to begin the massacre. Not much to see, but plenty to think about.

Such a powerfully moving history tale. Lovely minimalist image of this, makes it very striking.

Actually being there adds so much to the words of history teacher. And in any weather they are awesome places. Enjoy

I’ve been through Glencoe many times but never seen this lovely memorial. Thinking it must be off the main road somewhere. Good to see!

@happypat You're right, it's just up a small side street, in the area of Upper Carnoch, in Glencoe village. You'd miss it if you weren't looking specifically for it.

This is beautiful- even though it stands for such sorrow.
