Yesterday did not go well. We set out for a walk and lunch with a friend in Finzean, filling the car up with petrol on the way.
We hadn't gone 5 miles when the car started spluttering and misbehaving in the village of Aboyne. I managed to get off the main road into a side road, and pull up safely just before it conked out completely. So after a bit of faffing, the breakdown insurance was activated, friends and lunch were cancelled, and we set out to walk into the village whilst we waited to be rescued.
On our way down the road, hubby suddenly had a revelation, yes, he'd put petrol in our diesel car! Oh dearie, dearie me. Anyway, long story short, the car is in the garage in Aboyne, hubby is feeling very silly, and I've left my camera in the back of the car! So, I'll be on my wee point and shoot until we get the car (and my camera) back.
In the meantime, I've been working on a memory book for dad, (for his 90th later this year) and I came across letters from a penpal he had in the Gambia in 1954, so I thought I'd share this image of Sheriff Foday Touray with you.
Sheriff was introduced to dad through dad's cousin who was a Colony Development Officer at the Department of Agriculture in Cape St. Mary, Bathurst, The Gambia. Dad still has the letters sent to him by Sheriff, who was a Mandingo by birth, and worked as a messenger in the Agricultural HQ. Dad and Sheriff seemed to correspond for a few years between 1954 & 56, but after that I don't know what happened.
What a lovely photo of your dad's friend. Such an annoying thing to have happen to your car and something that can happen when you own both petrol and diesel vehicles. Hopefully the repair is quick and you can get both your camera and car returned.
Oh dear, my husband says that there are two kinds of people - those who have put petrol in a diesel car and those are going to! He is in the first category ๐
hmmmm petrol in diesel .... I hope the engine is OK ... driving off is the worst thing that can happen . I hope you get your camera back , nice bit of family history here
@merrelyn Ha ha ... I shared that with hubby. It cheered him up a bit! Still waiting to find out what the damage is, however. That may not be quite so cheerful. Time will tell.
Oh easy done especially if you have one diesel & one petrol which could be the case! What a kind face your guy Sheriff has, your dad will be pleased to see it!
My mother-in-law turns 90 this year as well. Plans for a grand celebration are in the works. So sorry to hear about the car- I hope the repair is not too costly! What a fascinating friendship- the letters must be so interesting.
Sorry to hear about the car episode though. ๐ข
Oops about the car, sounds expensive.
