This is a sculpture of Alan Turing, computer pioneer and codebreaker, which sits at Bletchley Park. It's made of small shaped pieces of slate.
In 2009, Gordon Brown, then Prime Minister, issued an apology on behalf of the UK government, to Alan Turing, who was arrested and convicted in 1952 for gross indecency, and treated 'in an appalling way'. It seems likely that Turing took his own life in June 1954. This letter of apology is displayed at Bletchley Park.
Turing also received a Royal Pardon in December 2013.
Whilst it seems just and right that the apology and the pardon were issued, it does beg the question 'what about the others?'.
I love Bletchley. My father was a code breaker in The Royal Signals, so it is a special place for me. Nice portrait of this super statue. I must go back there again soon.
@casablanca I'd never been before, and I found it to be a great, and very informative day out. I can imagine that, for you, it holds even more interest.
