This Steller's Sea Eagle is one of my favorite birds to photograph at the National Aviary! Its rich, dark plumage; vibrant, yellow-orange bill; and intense gaze have drawn me over to its exhibit time and time again. This morning was no exception!
There are some challenges to photographing this magnificent eagle, such as reflections on its glass enclosure and the stark contrast between its dark and light feathers (especially when the sun is shining brightly on that white forehead). The challenges turn each photo shoot into a great learning experience and make capturing a pretty image all the more exciting!
I like viewing this image best on the black background.
This is an awesome shot, love the detail and the focus. Welcome to 365 and hope you enjoy the ride, it is a fantastic thing to do and everyone is so friendly.
@lhart Thank you, Lynne, for your kind comment, the welcome, and the follow...much appreciated! Yes, everyone here at 365 is so very friendly and helpful! I've already learned some things, and I'm looking forward to learning and practicing even more! :-)
I'm sure you know a better way to shoot through glass than I do, but here's what I do (almost embarrassed to say). I put the end of the lens right on the glass! This is a beautiful eagle indeed!
Awesome shot Janet - and even better if it was taken through glass. Such great detail. Welcome to 365, hope you enjoy it. And congrats on getting onto the Popular Page!
@jillhempsall Thank you for your kindness, Jill! It was indeed taken through glass. I really love photographing these magnificent birds...I could stand at that exhibit all day long...they are so beautiful! :-)
