It's been a long time since I've studied metamorphosis, but I do remember instars; and I was excited to discover this final instar katydid nymph camouflaging itself on the begonia leaf! Those small, developing wings indicate this katydid will undergo a final molt before becoming a beautiful adult with wings fully grown.
Adults sing to each other by rubbing their wings together; and the familiar, rhythmic song lulls us to sleep on Summer nights!
@cejaanderson Thank you for your comment and the fav! It really was a pleasant surprise to find this little katydid. I had just finished a walk in the garden and was heading back indoors when I spotted it!
@lisamccloskey Thank you, Lisa! I was a bit challenged to capture the green on green effectively. If you or anyone else has suggestions on how I could have done better, please let me know.
You did well to spot this tiny green insect amid all the green of the leaves! Before 365 I was never so excited to find bugs as I am now. They represent a photo op!
@janetb i have no knowledge of processing really, i use on online program called ipiccy. the only thing i can relatively well is increase shadows. i do that sometimes to increase the contrast. it sometimes doesn't make a good fit though... i just play around until i get the look i'm happy with.
@lisamccloskey Thanks for the tips, Lisa! Much appreciated! I try to do most adjustments in camera, but I rely on PicMonkey when I need to tweak something. I'll take a look at ipiccy. Thanks again! :-)
