Hello, sun in my face.
Hello, you who made the morning
and spread it over the fields
and into the faces of the tulips
and the nodding morning glories,
and into the windows of, even, the
miserable and the crotchety –
best preacher that ever was,
dear star, that just happens
to be where you are in the universe
to keep us from ever-darkness,
to ease us with warm touching,
to hold us in the great hands of light –
good morning, good morning, good morning.
Watch, now, how I start the day
in happiness, in kindness.
- Mary Oliver, American poet
This early morning's sunshine through the oaks and hickories reminded me of one of my favorite Mary Oliver poems. Waking early and enjoying coffee with, as she puts it, "the best preacher that ever was" put a spring in my late Summer step today!
Wish we had a bit more sun on our faces here in the UK this summer. Been raining and grey for much of it this year! In the meantime I will enjoy your lovely sunny image.
That is a pretty sunburst - wonderful way to start the day. There's a spot on the route I walk each morning that I try to reach just when that red ball is coming up over the horizon - never fails to make me smile.
@milaniet Thank you, Milanie! I'm hoping to take a similar photo soon using some tips I read today. This is such a learning process for me, and I'm having fun! Your morning walk sounds wonderful! I'll be smiling with you when that red ball comes up over the horizon.
Also, you are welcome! Your rusty picture is fabulous! :-)
