Surprise! by janetb

Surprise!

My husband and I recently went with a few friends to a fabulous cooking demonstration where we learned the art of garnishing foods with glistening gourmet finishing salts. This morning, I came downstairs to find this little display of amazing salts…a surprise gift from my husband! I love to prepare foods for visiting friends and family; and the various colors, textures, and flavors of these shimmering salts will be fun to experiment with!

I like viewing this image best on the black background.
I've never heard of this before, and it is intriguing. What a wonderful gift for you!

@cejaanderson Thanks, Jane! We had never heard of them before the chef's demonstration. I'm excited to read about and taste each one so that I can pair them with appropriate recipes. They can be sprinkled on top of foods before serving, or a pretty dish of salt can be set on the serving table with a salt spoon for guests to use themselves!

I'm going to tag my daughter because she owns some lovely antique salt cellars. @laurielizard

@cejaanderson Sounds good, Jane! And I didn't know that was your daughter...I commented on at least one of her beautiful photos!

@janetb Thank you so much, Milanie! The way the little jars are arranged is exactly how Mike set them up for me to find...he's such a great guy. We just celebrated our 32nd wedding anniversary in July. I can't believe how fast time flies by! :-)

@cashew Thank you so much for your kind comment! Last night, I made a salad dressing leaving out the traditional table salt. My husband and I each chose a finishing salt to fling on top. I chose the Fleur de Sel...the shimmering, delicate crystals from France added delightful bursts of unique, salty flavor! My husband chose the Black Pyramid...the black, pyramid-shaped crystals from the Mediterranean added a welcome, salty crunch and fun, interesting color to the greens! :-)
