I love this rose for so many reasons! I’m thrilled that I finally captured a rose’s color the way I actually saw it. (I ended up enhancing the color just a tad, which 365 has inspired me to do; but the original image came out of the camera exactly as I saw it, which was a first for me.)
Also, I'm tickled that I found a new use for the tiny tripod that spends most of its time on the shelf. Its flexible legs bend in every direction; and I discovered that those three little legs can actually rest on my chest, giving the camera great support while maintaining the flexibility of a handheld shot. (I only realized this benefit when I spotted this pretty rose on my way back indoors after shooting small, purple Liriope with the tripod standing traditionally on the ground and a cable release attached to the camera. When I began snapping photos of the rose, the tiny tripod legs still protruding from the camera settled themselves on my chest.)
While shooting the rose with this newfound method, I learned that I actually like using the cable release to reduce camera shake even on handheld shots. So I’ve learned so much today, and I'm thankful to the lovely rose; but what gives me the most joy is that, while photographing the rose, a flock of beautiful Blue Jays darted and screamed incessantly high overhead. I’m not sure what had them in such an uproar, perhaps a nearby hawk; but witnessing the wildness of nature always delights beyond measure!
This is lovely, Janet, and I really enjoyed your comments about the experience of shooting these shots. You're getting so much more than just the pictures.
@milaniet Thank you for taking a look at my project and for your feedback, Milanie. I really appreciate your comments. 365 has been a great learning experience. Your photos always inspire me...you have a great eye!
You did a good job capturing the red color. It is the most difficult color to photograph I think. Nicely done. Good DOF as well. I like your story about the tiny tripod.
@pej Thanks so much, Paul. Yes, I think reds are challenging, too. I'm happy you liked the story. I'll be walking around my gardens with that tripod from now on! :-)
@lyndemc Thank you for taking the time to comment on my project and for the fav! The rose taught me so much today. That tiny tripod will see lots of action now!
Well done you for putting so many new things into practice which has resulted in a beautiful image. I always struggle with the exposure on red flowers.
