She walked along, that friend of mine, occasionally bending over when something just right caught her eye. Further and further she went until she was just a speck. I read my book. I knew what she was doing. Collecting shells had long been one of her favorite things to do. She returned happy with a sparkle in her eye and a surprise in her hand. A sand dollar she didn’t pick up for herself. A sand dollar she picked up for me! My dear friend of 37 years is like that, and I’m so thankful for her gifts of sand dollar and friendship. Tonight, we head off with our husbands to the beach for another week of memory making!
I remember searching for these at the beach when I was small - I think the search was as fun as the find. We called them sand dollars, too. It was rare to find one that didn't have a chip in it - this one is perfect.
@cejaanderson Jane, thank you so much for the link to the lovely writings about the sand dollar! I really enjoyed reading them, and I'm going to send the link to my friend! Also, I am so happy you caught my error. I was in a hurry when I typed my commentary and mistakenly typed starfish rather than sand dollar! :-)
@milaniet i remember searching for them as well, Milanie; and you're right. Finding one without s chip was rare. We do call them sand dollars. I mistakenly typed starfish in my rush today! So much to do before we leave! :-)
I was at the beach with a friend once and we found 7 of them! They are special. And this is a nice shot showing off the detail. It's a special gift (as you don't find them too often) and a special friend.
@olivetreeann Wow, Ann, finding seven must have been thrilling! Thank you for commenting. Yes, she is a very special friend. My husband and I have been friends with her and her husband since high school! We are all looking forward to our week at the beach together.
