10 minutes with a 300mm lens handheld. That’s all I had this afternoon, and my hands aren’t so steady when the camera’s wearing that heavy lens. I found myself in the garden with the pretty Gaura blowing in the wind and the clock ticking. I’m now out of time, and this is my favorite of the shots I took; so it’s my post for today!
This actually turned out pretty good I think. I like how the white flower stands out so well against the black background. You did a great job of focusing on it as well.
I do like the focus on this front gaura with the slightly blurred one behind. They're a great flower to show details on. It's really nice against the dark background - I handhold nearly all mine because I can't walk those 5 miles with a tripod and I'm usually hunting birds who won't stay put for a tripod anyway. I really like this.
@milaniet Thank you so much! I appreciate your kindness so much! I very rarely handhold the 300mm lens, because it is just too big and heavy for me. Today, there was no time to get the tripod; so I relied on the continuous focus feature of the camera and the vibration reduction feature of the lens. The wind was really blowing the flowers around, so it was a challenge to get a good shot (especially in 10 minutes); but I had fun trying! :-)
@olivetreeann Thank you, Ann! Shooting this under these conditions was a challenge, and it made me make some quick decisions about settings. I was happy to get a few in focus, and the experience was worthwhile.
