I have a bit of a passion for it. My father, grandfather, and a handful of uncles were glassworkers who spent their lives working in a factory producing glass for commercial use. Somehow the love of smooth, shiny, sparkling glass got passed down to me; and I collect both antique and contemporary pieces.
Years ago, we watched in awe of the roaring furnaces and the glassworker’s skill as this pumpkin came to life before our eyes. The history of glass, my family’s connection to glass, and my collection of glass brings me great joy!
Beautiful piece of work.Beautifully photographed too. Thanks for sharing the story of the glassworkers. It's a skill I greatly admire. We have many glass artists on the coast & they all do beautiful work.
@nydelignorsk Thank you! I admire the skill as well, and I so enjoy glass both old and new. My daughter and I are taking a beginner glassblowing class next weekend, and we are really excited about it. I suspect I'll admire the skill even more after discovering firsthand what's involved!
Instant love for this one. I like the contrast of the fancy glass against the natural browns of the leaves. Love the stem-handle too. Neat learning about your history with glass.
(How's the recovery going? Coming along good, I hope.)
@lyndemc Thank you for your nice words and fav! So kind of you to ask about the recovery. It's feeling a little better, although not as better as I'd expect after a month of inactivity. Heading back to the doctor in 3 days. I sure am hoping that I can discontinue wearing this clunky boot and increase my activity at least a bit. Fingers are crossed for luck! :-)
@cejaanderson Aww, Jane, thank you for your comment and fav. You are so kind! I love this pumpkin and the happy memories associated with it, and I'm glad you like my image!
@lisamccloskey How interesting that you used to work for a glass blower, Lisa. What a fun experience! Thank you for commenting on my glass pumpkin. I appreciate you stopping by!
