I’m thankful for the gift of viewing Pittsburgh from atop Mount Washington today. Appropriately named Grandview Avenue runs along the crest of Mount Washington and offers scenic overlooks where tourists as well as locals can often be found with cameras and smiles. Jutting out over the tree-covered slope of the mountain, the overlooks provide a grand view of the spectacular Pittsburgh skyline rising up from the north shore of the Monongahela River. While our home is located about 30 minutes east, we do visit downtown Pittsburgh quite often for sporting and special events, concerts, musical theater, shopping, and incredible dining at the many fine restaurants in our beautiful city.
For an idea of scale, it's interesting to note the trees in their amazing Autumn glory at the water's edge. The skyscrapers dwarf these big trees! I like viewing this image best on the black background.
I’m dedicating November to giving thanks! For years, I’ve kept a gratitude journal in which I jot down things that I’m thankful for. During this month when we’ll celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday, I’m going to take my gratitude for God’s good gifts one step further by photographing a particularly meaningful gift each day for my 365 project! I've always viewed the subjects of my images as gifts, but I'm looking forward to this month of intentionally labeling them as such. This will enable me to spend a bit more time dwelling on God's goodness and offering the thanks that He deserves. If anyone would like to join me in this celebration of grace, please do! I’ll be tagging my images: all-is-grace.
@linnypinny Lin, thank you so much for your comment and fav! It was partly sunny and in the 60s today here in Pittsburgh, so it was a perfect November day to visit Mount Washington and admire the city. :-)
There aren't many cities in the world with such a spectacular view like Pittsburgh has. I never get tired of being on Grandview Ave. looking over the city. Always thankful for a sight like this.
@photographycrazy Thank you so much for your kindness! I appreciate you stopping by my project and taking the time to comment. Framing a subject in my viewfinder helps me to see it for what it really is...a gift! All is grace.
@pej It was a beautiful day to be up there! I snapped my first photo of the city from up there about 35 years ago, and I'm still doing it. Like you, I never tire of this view! Thank you for commenting, Paul. I appreciate your time!
Wonderful view of the city from atop Mount Washington - really shows the major changes in the last 60 years (almost - fall 1956 I started college at Chatham there.) Such a beautiful city now. Wonderful against black to capture such detail in so much.
@milaniet Thank you! I do find it amazing how different the city looks now from how it looked decades ago. It just keeps getting better and better and better! The rivers are clean and supporting Bald Eagles once again; and many beautiful, new riverfront communities are popping up (some even with marinas for boat lovers). Downtown Pittsburgh is quite vibrant with many folks moving back to the city into upscale apartments and condos. The food scene there is fabulous with unique, new restaurants opening all the time!
this is an amazing view, love all the different coloured buildings and the tops of them are all so different too. Very different shot to the rural view i've just commented on. Fav
@lhart Thanks for the comment and fav, Lynne! My community is 30 minutes east of this busy downtown scene. I do love the variety of architectural styles visible on the Pittsburgh skyline.
@olivetreeann Thank you for commenting! I agree that Pittsburgh is very pretty...we certainly do love our city! There is so much to do here...what a fun honeymoon they surely had!
