With me in this room on the computer and my camera in that room on the tripod, the arrival of this beautiful White-tailed Deer just outside the window to my right was ill-timed. But how could I not hobble as fast as the healing Achilles would allow to pluck the Nikon from its perch, quickly switch 500mm for 70-300mm, and find one of just a few clear panels among the wavy and frosted and bubbled glass in the leaded front door? I got 10 shots before my clumsy and accidental thumping of lens on glass became more than she could bear, and off she went.
The little panel of clear glass I shot through had a beveled edge, which resulted in fogginess and an ever-so-slight little rainbow of color on the right hand side of this image. Funny how the fog makes the memory clearer.
@jaffacakes Yes, the deer walked past the window and stopped to nibble some cotoneaster branches just outside the front door. I always love to see them this close. Many thanks for commenting and for the fav!
I can visualize the whole picture taking episode - love the results! Can't believe you got that many shots before she left. - such great light and wonderful focus, right to the snow on her back. Love this. Fav
@milaniet I was hand-holding that heavy lens, so I wasn't sure I'd get a clear shot. This was my favorite of the 10. She must have been very hungry to not dash away at the first thump! I really appreciate your comment and fav. Thank you!
@kategoring Thank you for commenting, Kate! I actually snapped this yesterday; and my Achilles is, thankfully, no worse today. I have one more week of off-my-feet before heading back to the doctor. I'm so hoping I'll get a good report and be able to get out of this boot and back to normal!
beautiful shot of a beautiful subject and look at that snow....my grandchildren would love to run around in that...I have only ever seen snow falling once a long time ago and to see as much as in your photo one would have to travel up high in the great dividing range....
@mccarth1 Thanks, Kerry! Not a day goes by that I'm not thankful for the joy nature-watching brings. We're surrounded on three sides by woods, so there's always something going on out there. I really appreciate you taking the time to comment.
