I learned of an interesting park not too far from home, and I aimed to find it in an effort to break up the monotony of elevating the healing Achilles. The park was closed. Today’s thick gray clouds and I then headed back to the highway to find a sign I’d noticed earlier pointing the way to another unfamiliar park — Duff Park. I wasn’t asking for much. Just to cast my too-much-time-spent-indoors eyes upon some natural beauty; and oh, it needed to be visible from inside my vehicle. The Achilles didn’t allow for getting out. I pulled into the parking lot, and I saw it. Buzzed down the window, and I heard it. A babbling brook! Snap. Snap. Dim, but pretty. Then the real gift appeared. The thick gray clouds parted for 1/200 of a second — just long enough for one sparkling shot!
My need to shoot from open window meant the inclusion of the dirty, plowed snow on the edge of the parking lot. A fun memory for me! Now I'm back to elevating the Achilles.
@jaffacakes Thanks so much for your comment, Geraldine! Yes, I did try converting it; but I liked the color version better. Probably because it brings back a more accurate memory of my excursion. It felt so good to get out of the house! :-)
@mittens Many thanks, Marilyn! The park is a designated wild plant sanctuary, and I can't wait to go back when I can walk around. I'm thrilled to have stumbled across this park today!
Pretty composition and tones. My son has had achilles issues which are finally on the mend after physiotherapy. He had to do 15 heel lifts on stairs, then I did cross massage on his tendon with my thumbs (3 minutes) then I used a rolling pin and rolled down his calf stopping just short of the achilles (3 minutes). Following by 15 minutes of ice. We did that 3 times a day for a month and the improvement has been amazing!!
@kwind Thank you for commenting and sharing your son's story! I'm so glad he's doing better! My injury occurred 9 months ago; and I've been through a brace, months of physical therapy (which included some of the things you mentioned), a boot, rest, and heel lifts in my shoes. After all that, it tore in December. Now it's immobilized in a boot, and I keep it elevated as much as possible. I can tell it's healing, so I'm hoping for a good report when I visit the doctor on February 3. It's hard to believe that April will be a year since this whole thing started. I'm eager to get back to my normal, active lifestyle!
@taffy Thanks so much, Taffy! There were no shadows in the first pictures I snapped. Only this one that I got when the sun peeked out showed shadows, and I was thrilled. It was such a gift!
The fact that the water is babbling quietly along is a good sign that the snow will be melting. Glad you were able to get outdoors - you've been a good patient - can't imagine what an ordeal this has been for you. You got a nice one from the car here with those shadows from the trees. The sun was giving you a little treat for being so good.
@milaniet Many thanks, Milanie! The tiny glimpse of sun was a real treat, and it felt so good to be breathing in the fresh air! This injury definitely changed my lifestyle, but many good things came out of it...365 being one. I love having time to devote to photography, and I've learned so much!
I love this picture and how you brought in the dirty snow in with the white. I also love the soft shadows reflecting on the snow. Nicely done Janet. Fav
A really beautiful capture--that second of sunlight was all you needed, and you got the beautiful light and shadow and clear reflection in this capture. Your comp is lovely. Even the dirty piled-up snow fills a framing function and reminds us of how pristine (pristine-looking, at least) beauty can exist right beside the less than pristine.
