I detoured on my way home today toward my favorite little roadside produce market where impeccably arranged fresh fruits and vegetables provide a feast for the eyes as well as the tummy. I pulled off the road where cardboard pails of vibrant oranges gleamed in afternoon sunshine on a long outdoor table.
Once inside the tiny space brimming with the charm of handwritten signs ("Bartlett Pears Ripe and Ready to Eat!”), I carried my choices to the one and only counter; and a friendly, aproned clerk wrote down how many of this and that she bagged. She smiled and reminded me to have a nice day, and there’s something about a mom and pop shop that makes shopping a joy!
These do look wonderful - really nice dof - I love little stores like this - their displays are always creative and so much more interesting than the WalMarts etc.
Lovely story and image nice dof , I suppose we had something like this when I was a girl. My dad had a market garden and in the gateway he used to have a little white hut that he would set out with all his fresh fruit veg and flowers and guess who had to look after it! I remember he used to give me a shilling or two depending on what I sold, that is a memory I haven't thought about in a long time!
