Unconventional

Northern Cardinals prefer to eat on the ground. They can be enticed to perch on a tube feeder or hopper feeder, but a tray feeder that allows them to stand as they do on the ground makes them happier. This handsome male’s unconventional behavior of clinging vertically to this log feeder's rough surface to reach the suet makes me smile. As the saying goes: where there’s a will, there’s a way!
Excellent composition and educational text!

@eyesmile Hi, Gena! Thank you for commenting! This is one of my favorite feeders. It is a joy to fill, it never needs to be cleaned, and the birds love it. In this picture, I have it filled with cherry suet. :-)
