Shock and Awe

Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us; and confirm for us the work of our hands;
yes, confirm the work of our hands.
— Psalms 90:17

What were the chances I'd enter the foyer at just the right time to see a Mourning Dove walking across the transom? I heard it cooing, and then I noticed it was on the smaller side as far as Doves go. When it hopped downward toward the porch light, I instantly knew: one of the fledglings had come back to its nest and after 2-1/2 weeks! I opened the front door slowly, looked rightward and saw its familiar, glossy black, aqua-encircled eye looking back at me unafraid. We'd stared at each other many times since its little white egg cracked open and its precious life entered mine. I stepped down onto the porch to gaze astonished but gasped instead when I saw the second Dove! They'd both returned? The grace of it sunk in, and there I stood — shocked and awed.

Lord, it wasn't enough for you to put one irresistible subject in front of me as I prayed about whether I should take time to make a picture today. You put not one but two! Your trademark shock and awe guides me, and I am forever grateful. Thank you for confirming the work of my hands. Yes, thank you for confirming the work of my hands. Amen.
Aww, sweet capture.
