opening dance performance

My son's Maturaball, initiated with a Polonaise.
In the picture you can see the spatial context to the previous picture (there you also find a more detailed description about Maturaball in Austria) and you have an impression of the ambience. The ball of my son's Matura class was at the Palais Kaufmännischer Verein (Linz, Upper Austria). Many representative events take place there.
I love the golden glow and elegance!

@taffy Dear Taffy, The students are very busy with the preparations for the Maturaball. They have to demonstrate that they can organize a ball of this dimension. They are responsible for renting the rooms, organizing a music band, for the hall decoration, the disco, the tombola, the dance inserts etc. They also have to make advertising in the city - design, print and distribute posters; also announcements in the newspapers. After all, just the room hire in this house costs a lot of money. This has to be generated - with the sale of the entrance cards and donations from sponsors. But usually there is a profit and the pupils share the money between them. Often, the Matura travel (joint trip of the class after the final examination, the Matura) is financed in this way.
This ball represents a school in the public eye. And it is generally acknowledged what performance the pupils render. The students of the final class appreciate this.
The pupils of the final class must prove with this ball that they can manage such an event. This is part of the concept of "matura" - maturity: not only knowledge, but also be capable in practical matters.

How wonderful that the young adults take on this task and do it with such aplomb. The further of Austria is in good hands. Thank you for the background information. Austria is an amazing place.
November 22nd, 2016
Like the simplicity of the lines and elegance of the clothing as compared to ornate fittings in the room. Works very well.
November 22nd, 2016
Have just read you reply to Taffy and I think this is a wonderful idea. The attention to detail in their dress and the accuracy of their lines shows how hard they have worked for this. There must be some very proud parents there. A very elegant and sophisticated accession. Fav

November 23rd, 2016
Listening to Mozart as I comment so landing on your shot was perfect. Looks to have been a very special evening and memory.

@365projectorgjenfurj Thank you for your warm and nice words, Jenfurj!
I would like to see it as you say it so beautifully: "The further of Austria is in good hands". There are many good things in Austria, but also circumstances that concern me. Not everything is all right in this country, some developments are causing me worries.
But my son's maturaball is not the right time to think about it...
November 23rd, 2016
@thistle Thank you, Joyce, for your nice comment! Yes, the parents are very proud about their children. The maturaball is an important event in a school year.
November 23rd, 2016
@joysabin Mozart... you were in heaven...
November 23rd, 2016
what an amazing experience for the young people. So much organising and so much to learn from all their hard work. The parents must be very pround to see what they achieve. Our students have a formal dance at the end of their last two years of school and have a committe to organise it but nothing as glamorous as this. And what a grand venue for it as well.
November 23rd, 2016
@cruiser Thank you, Chris, for your nice comment! Yes, the young people learn a lot in this project - organizing in teamwork. And the parents are proud of their children, and many of them also help.
November 23rd, 2016
Fav!

Not only is this a fascinating photo, your description (particularly your answer to Taffy who is sitting next to me now) is very informative! What a wonderful tradition!
November 24th, 2016
@jerome I'm so glad you explained this -- it's so much more than 'just' a ball, knowing how much work the students have put into this. It's an amazing social learning experience, about organization and also about community. You have to be so proud of your children who are involved in such a successful event. And what a special opportunity for everyone involved.

@jyokota @taffy Dear Taffy, dear Junko, thank you for your kind comments! So nice.
Taffy is sitting next to you... You both seem to be a couple... Where do you live? Wonderful when the love of photography can be shared in this way.
It touches me very much when my pictures can reach other people, when a dialogue takes place, when a string sounds in the inside... Then very, very much has happened...
Thank you so much, Taffy and Junko.

@ziggy77 @fpmtngal Thank you - Jo and Harriet -, for your kind comments!
November 24th, 2016
@jerome We are good friends. I work with Junko's husband (or did until I retired a few months ago) and my husband and Junko's still work at the same university we three worked at for many years. It's great that we have each other as photo buddies. We are currently living with Junko and her husband because we had a house fire and a series of events after that. We rebuilt our house, then sold it and bought the place we had been renting during the reconstruction. But we inherited renters when we bought it, and they have not moved out in the time they were expected to. So...that's why we are often sitting next to each other processing photos! We move out in January to an apartment near the university for the winter, and MAY move back next spring if the renters still haven't gone. All very complicated, but the lesson is it is wonderful to have good friends that are so supportive in an emergency situation!
November 24th, 2016
It all looks so glamorous and sophisticated!
November 24th, 2016
Beautifully composed photo
November 24th, 2016
Beautiful building and capture. Thank you so much for explaining the Maturaball. I love hearing about traditions in other countries and how they differ from ours in the US.

@katrinanz @cmp Thank you, Katrina an Catherine, for your nice comments!
November 24th, 2016
@debbyglynn Thank you, Debby, for your kind comment!
I am also very interested in how people live, feel and think in other places. It broadens one's horizon and is so enriching. That's the nice thing about traveling. Also in this forum you can travel with the pictures - in all areas of the world. How beautiful that is!
November 24th, 2016
Thank you, dear Taffy, for your explanations. I had supposed that Junko is a male name... So my question, if you are a couple. :)
Great that you are so good friends and share the passion for photography! This is unique and something very special. So you are retiring and you have the whole day free for photography - envious. May I ask what professions you, Junko and your husbands have? What kind of university is it? I am on a college of education.
November 24th, 2016
wow, so impressive
November 25th, 2016

@gamelee Thank you, Lee, for your nice comment!
November 28th, 2016
How wonderfully elegant and what an accomplishment for your son and his friends.
November 28th, 2016
What a magnificent occasion for everyone involved. There must be such a sense of achievement after pulling off such a finely choreographed event. I often find that our young people are capable of so much more than we imagine - it is great to give them the opportunity to prove this - even under the pressure of the public eye. Well done everyone!
November 28th, 2016
@jocasta Thank you, Jocasta, for your kind comment! Yes, this evening is something very special for the students.
November 29th, 2016
@helenhall Thank you, Helen, for your nice visit! You know how much I appreciate you. I missed you very much.
November 29th, 2016
@helenhall Your thought is beautiful: We should have confidence in the young people, give them opportunities to show their talents; and encourage them.
