I still have some photos of Venice in the winter. I would like to share with you. In this time Venice is much quieter than in the summer, when a lot of tourists flow through the streets and squares. On many days foggy haze lies over the canals and wraps the walls in silent melancholy.
So, so beautiful! Amazing photography. Fav. I was in Europe many years ago. I got to see Venice for just a couple hours. I always thought I would make it back but never did. :(
Lovely capture. Really like the way the combination of the "foggy haze", colours, antique-looking lampposts, architecture, and the modern people/items make the scene seem like a slightly faded memory, or a place where time doesn't exist.
Possibly Venice is unusual in the winter. One must reckon with inconveniences. Snow in Venice is rather rare, but quite possible. And you have to dress warmly. You can not sit outside and eat or drink a coffee. But some restaurants provide heated and covered seating corners in the alleyways and thus also outdoors. Maybe you do not like foggy days. Then the warmer season is better for you. I personally tend to a Venice in the winter - when the streets and squares are much quieter and the city belongs again to the Venetians. When the misty haze creates a peculiar melancholy over the city. Then - according to my feeling - this wonderful city unfolds a special charm.
How I would have loved to have seen Venice like this on a foggy day! The day we were there (with another couple of friends) it's rained and rained! Of course, when it's one special day, we had to see as much as possible! It was winter, so it was so uncomfortable, it was hard to recall it with pleasure. I would most definitely like to return as see it as you do!
@Weezilou I am very sorry that you have experienced Venice with so much rain. This is also possible in Venice. There may also be flood (aqua alta). Then you need rubber boots. There are also wooden bridges set up for people to get through the streets.
Maybe you'll come back to Venice, despite the less good experience. Then I wish you good weather conditions and many nice moments in this wonderful city.
@jerome Well, yes, we DID experience the aqua alta, and there were the wooden platforms (bridges) through the square to approach the church! Perhaps instead of saying "it was a terrible day", it would be more positive to say we were there to experience some most interesting and unusual weather, and how the Venetians cope with it!
@Weezilou It is nice that you also take a positive viewpoint from the rain and the aqua alta. The wooden platforms ... so you can report a special experience! :)

And I agree - it is interesting how the Venetians manage this.
