Love it, gotta love the Kimberley. If I remember correctly, termite mounds are all build the same direction, east-west I think, to minimise the afternoon heat.

You could continue this image to the left and right long, long. There were really many, many termite mounds that spread over the savannah.

Yes, you are right - the termite mounds are aligned to the sun. But I think aligned to N-S (the narrow side exposed to the midday sun).
