Chamois are animals of the Alps. Fully grown they weigh about 50kg. On the back they have a dark dorsal stripe. A black longitudinal band runs from the ears over the eyes to the muzzle. The slender horns curve inwards. Most of them stay above the tree line, in the summer up to 3000 meters. They are fantastic climbers. They seek out areas that are almost inaccessible to humans and other animals.
Chamois are usually very shy. They are hunted by lynx, wolf, bear, eagle and lammergeier. Also rolling rocks and avalanches can be deadly to them. But the main threat is the human being, who destroys their habitats in the mountains.
That is a magical photo my friend. Enhanced only by the wonderful description you accompany it with. Happy New Year to you, my friend. Can't wait to see what other delights you will serve up to all of us in the coming year.
@jerome I thought your capture was fabulous, even without the telephoto lens. All I have is my iPhone to work with...but I enjoy it and am still happy, though it has its limits.

Thank you, CC Folk, Joe, Krista, Tami and Milanie, for your nice comments! I was lucky when I took this picture. It is a special experience for me to have been so close to these wild animals.

Thank you all for your kind comments!
It is always a nice moment to meet chamois. I have seen some only with a few mountain hikes. Noisy hikers will never see any.
It is fortunate when you get as close as in this case. On the mountain I do not have my telephoto lens with me - it is too heavy and takes up too much space in the backpack. It is therefore difficult to take good animal pictures.
Warm regards to San Fernando Valley!
