Between crevasses and on steep terrain - a risky project. Under these difficult conditions on the glacier you have to be very experienced, you need special equipment (eg crampons, ice picks) and physical fitness. And: do not go alone.
i guess climbers pretty much have to wear colourful outfits and gears. this is a great shot, as usual, Jerome. your photos never fail to amaze and awe!
you take us on many interesting journeys Jerome. This one is instinctively risky terrain....fabulous they chose to wear red!! I just love the surface of the glacier? I presume it is a glacier.....
It is amazing to look at the structure of all those crevices on the ice. The climbers look, somehow, as if they know what they are doing but I see danger and a need to fully respect the elements. Beautifully crafted and composed.
@helenhall I agree with you, Helen. Under such conditions it is dangerous on the glacier. Even with two people on the rope, it's a risk. In this case, a single person must hold the fall, build an anchorage and carry out the salvage. These tasks are shared among several people in larger groups. But even then such a venture remains dangerous: Five months ago, a group of six people was on a glacier in Salzburg. One man lost his grip in the rope team and tore everyone down on the bare ice. Only one survived.

Why are so many people swarming into the mountains? Perhaps everyday life offers too little adventure. The mountains are marketed touristically. The omnipresent mobile phone gives a false sense of security: If something happens to me, then I call the mountain rescue. Someone comes and picks me up - preferably by helicopter. For some, this is already a kind of shuttle service.
The most common causes of accidents on the mountain: lack of preparation for a tour, lack of self-assessment, carelessness. Some people on the mountain also lack the right attitude to the mountain. I do not climb a summit to conquer a mountain. That's nonsense in my eyes. You have to understand and feel a mountain. You have to be able to feel when the mountain welcomes you and if not. One proves reason and greatness, if one reverses prematurely, because the conditions become too difficult.
Your words touch me deeply too... You have to understand and feel a mountain. You have to be able to feel when the mountain welcomes you and if not. One proves reason and greatness, if one reverses prematurely, because the conditions become too difficult.
die Farbe is super, übrigens!
But I did not get into this terrain in the photo - that alone is not advisable.

Thank you very much for the many nice responses! I'm extremely pleased about the interest in the mountains.
