Much of this forest is devasted by the bark beetle. The trees in the picture do not live anymore. On the Czech side, the dead trees are not felled and eliminated. It is nature reserve and forest management is not allowed. These trees slowly rot and eventually fall over. When I first saw these tree corpses, I was dismayed. But when I walk there now, I savour this place in a specific way. It's the course of nature and I think it has a good reason. And the bald tree corpses have their own aesthetics. In addition, the view on this hill is nicely free - no longer obstructed by dense, impenetrable forest.
The young people in this region no longer know the conditions in the Cold War - here on the border with the Czech Republic. Watchtowers and wire fences stood here, controlled by soldiers with a shooting order. And when I walk there today, I think of the blood in the earth of the people who died there a senseless death.
Thank you for your nice comments!
