Another photo, taken at the summit of Mt. Fürleg. You can see the glacier of Mt. Großglockner in the distance (linear distance about 90 km). He is the highest mountain in Austria. He mostly hid behind the clouds.
So interesting to see you comment on the cloud cover as my first thought was, "What if you go all that way and it's cloud-covered!" I realize you must also be carrying a tripod with you? I was showing your photos to my husband and he asked what camera you were using, but I can't find that information. Do you care to share, in the full understanding that there's a remarkable photographer that makes that camera perform so beautifully!
The clouds framing what can be seen of the distant mountains are a most acceptable compromise to not seeing the full mountain - at least in the photograph here. Of course you would want the full view having climbed all that distance. The foreground rocks appear to imitate the (imagined) shape of the missing mountain. Thereby completing the picture for the viewer.
@Weezilou Thank you, Louise, for your kind words!
I am pleased to provide information about my equipment:
I bought a Nikon D750 ( https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikon-d750 ) about two years ago. I wanted a camera with a full-frame sensor. I also liked the possibility to fold out the monitor (practically in the case of taking macro photos near the ground).
I always have a tripod with me when traveling. Not in the mountains, though. On strenuous tours in the mountains you will save every gram of weight. That's why I do not take a tripod with me, not even my lightweight travel tripod.
Best regards, also to your husband!
Wir lieben den Großglockner sehr! So eine fabelhafte Landschaft. Wir fuhren dort hoch, als unser Junge jünger war. Wir müssen einfach wieder gehen. Danke für dieses wunderschöne Bild. Es lässt mich träumen.
@gamelee Mayrhofen - Zillertal, Tyrol... Certainly one of the most beautiful areas in Austria! However, I have never been there. I'm really looking forward to your photos and your impressions of this stay. September - ideal for hiking in the mountains. I wish you a wonderful time!

Sometimes an object is even more meaningful if it does not exhibit everything.
Thank you very much for your nice visit!
I have not climbed the Großglockner yet. But I would like to go up once in my life... The summit is not easy, only advisable with an experienced mountain guide.
